Environmentally-Friendly Toys

Every human puts in harmful chemicals to the environment, even farmers who introduce significant quantity of toxic chemicals to their crops. On the other hand, nobody in this existence carries no harmful chemicals in their bodies, the air we breathe, the food we take , the materials we use every day, contain harmful chemicals both tested and unexamined. Certainly, our bodies carry certain levels of chemicals. These levels can be negligible or can exceed to normal to such extent affecting our body systems. Two of the most toxic and damaging chemicals are BPA (Bispheral-A) and DBP (Dibutylphthalates).

On BPA

Studies claim that exposure to Bispheral-A (BPA) is linked to reproductive problems like infertility and PCOS. BPAs are chemicals found in plastics, canned goods and infant formula. BPAs are known to be hormone or endocrine disruptors. The said chemical also affects the breast tissues, prostate glands and reproductive tract.

On DBP

Dibutylphthalates (or simply phthalates) are chemicals usually found in cosmetics. Manufacturers, despite of the known effects of the chemicals, have kept their products labelled free. The chemicals are also affecting deodorants, hair products such as shampoo and conditioner, lotion, and even bubble gums.

So, why phthalates are still added to these products in spite of its harmful effects? Phthalates are known for its flexibility property, making the skin smooth (lotion). Phthalates also affect the reproductive system, creating problems. In addition, toys are also found to have traces of phthalates. They are used to soften plastic toys. They are dangerous to babies especially for their growth and development. Mother should welcome environmentally-friendly toys. Environmentally-friendly toys are manufactured free from chemicals, and utilize lesser energy and other resources. Examples of environmentally-friendly toys are made from bamboo, cork, hemps, etc. Phthalates are already banned in the US, but its extensive use and damage has been widely distributed.

On Plastics

As far as the use of plastics still remains a point of issue, the use of bottled water is one of the environmental concerns that, perhaps, is difficult or at least takes a lot of time to phase out. Bottled water is marketed as best and safer alternative to tap water. Manufacturers of this bottled water earn millions of dollars per year with its upfront advert in getting rid of contracting diseases from drinking tap water.

Be Environmentally-Friendly

So, how can we avoid these chemicals? Be organic as possible as you can. Breastfeed your child rather than use formula milk. Avoid chloro-products such as Chlorine, Chlorox. For your kids’ safety and health, get rid of plastic toys; patronize environmentally-friendly toys.
